February Blues?

Sunny days! ☀️ Sunny, sunny, sunny days! Winter is long and seemingly endless and February, being the shortest month numerically can somehow feel like the longest.

The Crone of Winter continues to throw at us ice and snow and endless uncertainty. ❄️

I find myself longing for the days of bare dirt roads and not having to fret about the weather when making plans a week in advance. I worry about winter parking bans when I head to Halifax and I worry about getting Ele the Elephant Van out of the snow belt when visiting there, or the state of the highway on route to Wolfville or whether or not I’ll make my yoga class in Sackville. One just never knows. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Now, for instance, I am, in fact, stranded in the above mentioned snow belt but with the sun beaming in, there are certainly worse places to be.

That said, the heat of that big ol' sun feels like an illusion when you actually step outside. We put icers on our boots and scarves around our necks and our fingers are cold and aching by the time we return indoors.

It's Febuary. And for some reason we always get this feeling of being disappointed every time a storm blows in or the temperatures plummet.

We could despair at these seemingly endless disappointments that February brings or we can see them for what they truly are. The reason we get so let down by these events is because we've begun to hope. Hope springs eternal, as they say, and that's what we're doing. Somehow, through the ice entombed world we feel a stirring within ourselves that signifies a slow awakening. Even though the Earth outside our windows is insulated with snow, we know that beneath it all there is a quickening of pulse -- a beat of a heart picking up the pace -- because Spring is coming. It may not be tomorrow, or next week, or next _month_ but we know, just like each and every year before now, that Spring is returning to us.

So rest while you can, everyone, because the Earth is awakening and someday soon we won't be abe to justify sitting inside on a bright sunny day like this because it won't be too cold to be outdoors. It will be time for raking and top-dressing garden beds and stretching our winter-weary bodies. Soak in the Sun, rejuvenate and rejoice!
