An Open Letter re: the most recent 1752 Treaty violation in Mi'kma'ki

To whom it must concern,

What are you doing to draw attention to, and assist in correcting the (most recent) violation of our 1752 Treaty in Mi'kma'ki?

As you are aware, we have a Treaty with the Indigenous Peoples of this land. A Treaty that has been reaffirmed by the Supreme Court of Canada. And it is only two pages long. I've attached a link as well as screenshots for you to access it to refresh your memory. Specifically section 4, where is reads;

"4. It is agreed that the said Tribe of Indians shall not be hindered from, but have free liberty of Hunting and Fishing as usual and that if they shall think a Truck house needful at the River Chibenaccadie, or any other place of their resort they shall have the same built and proper Merchandize, lodged therein to be exchanged for what the Indians shall have to dispose of and that in the mean time the Indians shall have free liberty to being to Sale to Halifax or any other Settlement within this Province, Skins, feathers, fowl, fish or any other thing they shall have to sell, where they shall have liberty to dispose thereof to the best Advantage."

On May 7th, in the midst of an enforced lock down due to a huge increase to COVID19 numbers in Nova Scotia, on behalf of the DFO, Jacob Macleay, of Small Craft Harbours _removed_ the Treaty Truck House at Saulnierville Wharf. This is a gross violation of our Treaty, and it is appalling that this work was done in such a sneaky and cowardly way.

This tells the public that you consider the breaking of our Treaty an ESSENTIAL SERVICE during a strongly enforced lock down. This is a blatant declaration that Nova Scotia does not support Indigenous Sovereignty.

We are in a time where everything is documented and seen. And we see you.

Right now, this is history in the making. If the DFO and the Government of Nova Scotia and Canada continue to perpetuate this violence it is _your_ names that will be going down in history as one of the most persistent oppressors in so-called Canada and you will always be remembered as such in the new world that is being fought for and created as we speak. The Mi'kmaq are strong and the rightful stewards of this land, and there are very many of us that stand with them.

We call for restoration and restitution of Treaty Truck House #3 at the Saulnierville Wharf location, as well as a public apology and tangible acts of reconciliation moving forward. What part are you going to play in making that happen?
